Stockholm, Sweden — April 17, 2024 — Beetroot, an impact-driven ecosystem of individuals, companies, and organizations operating in tech and education, today published its 2023 sustainability report. It highlights the ecosystem’s significant contributions to sustainable development and underscores Beetroot’s adaptability and resilience through challenging times.

“Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing Russian war against Ukraine and complex global market conditions, we remain committed to growth and positive impact,” said Andreas Flodström, Co-Founder and CEO of Beetroot. “By refining our strategies and optimizing our operational processes, we managed to stay resilient and expand our presence into Vietnam, Romania, and Moldova, significantly advancing our AI capabilities and Beetroot Academy educational programs.”

The report elaborates on Beetroot’s 2023 progress in contributing to seven United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), including the following highlights:

  • The ecosystem created nearly 3 450 job opportunities, directly and indirectly.
  • In line with its commitment to advancing women in tech, Beetroot reached a nearly 50/50 representation of women and men — 49% and 51%, respectively.
  • Beetroot Academy educated 5% of the newcomers in the Ukrainian tech sector.
  • Remaining a CO2-neutral organization since 2020, we reduced carbon emissions from 0.92 to 0.68 per person.
  • Thanks to the support of over 830 donors, the Beetroot Aid for Ukraine Fund has substantially impacted humanitarian aid, education, and community restoration. Through over 150 grassroots initiatives, around 14 000 individuals have received vital assistance since 2022.
  • Nearly $790 000 has been raised for military, medical, and humanitarian purposes by the Beetroot ecosystem team members.
  • Beetroot Academy granted over 630 scholarships to people from vulnerable communities.
  • Beetroot sponsored planting 10 000 trees in de-occupied regions to compensate for its unavoidable carbon footprint and help restore the Ukrainian ecosystem damaged by the war.

“Beetroot is one of the very few organizations that have actually put their sustainability strategies to the litmus test,” stated Clara Bodin, Chairperson at Beetroot, “The ecosystem expanded its presence internationally, significantly enriched the tech education programs, and directly contributed to economic and social stability through job creation and comprehensive aid efforts. Additionally, the Beetroot team increased the share of female employees in tech jobs and in leadership, as well as increased the share of female graduates from the Beetroot Academy programs, reaching levels that tech companies in peaceful and stable countries consider “totally impossible.”

In addition to the report release, Beetroot hosts the online panel discussion “Tech’s Power in Sustainability: from CSRD Obligation to Opportunity” on April 18, 2024. This event will delve into the nuances of the sustainability reporting landscape and how companies at various maturity stages can use tech to start or advance their CSR/ESG practices.
